Privacy policy
How Then & Now handles your information
Effective 5 November 2026. This policy explains what Then & Now collects when you use the website, why we collect it, and the choices you have — including advertising by Google AdSense.
Operator: Nottinvested. Support: Thekirudi@gmail.com. Related pages: About, Contact us, Disclaimer.
1. Who we are
Then & Now is an educational stock what-if calculator at notinvested.com. It is operated by Nottinvested (“we”, “us”). We are not a broker, investment adviser, bank, or credit information company. We do not create user accounts and we do not ask you to deposit money.
This policy applies to the website, its pages, and the calculator APIs. It does not apply to third-party websites we link to, including Google’s own properties.
2. What we collect
We do not require a sign-in. We do not collect a portfolio, tax identifier, or payment card.
Information you type. Ticker symbols, lump-sum amounts, start dates, and whether dividends should be reinvested. These are sent to our server so the pricing formula is not shipped to your browser. We do not use them to build a named investment profile.
Contact messages. If you email us or use the contact form, we receive whatever you include (typically your name, email address, and message). That stays in email, not in a marketing database we sell.
Technical logs. Standard web logs may include IP address, approximate time, URL, referrer, browser and device type, and success or error codes. We use these to keep the service up, rate-limit abuse, and diagnose faults.
Cookies and advertising identifiers. Google and other advertising partners may set cookies, pixels, or similar identifiers on your device when ads are shown. See Google AdSense below.
We do not intentionally collect precise GPS location, biometric data, or government ID.
3. How we use it
- To run the calculator and return a what-if result, share counts, prices, and timeline.
- To cache recent market answers in memory for a short time so repeat lookups stay fast.
- To prevent spam, scraping, and denial-of-service on the APIs.
- To reply when you contact us.
- To show advertising through Google AdSense so the site can stay free to use.
- To measure whether pages and ads load, in aggregate, not as a dossier of your trades.
- To meet legal duties if a lawful request is made.
4. Legal bases
If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we rely on:
- Legitimate interests — operating a public calculator, security, and answering support mail.
- Consent — storing or accessing non-essential advertising cookies where the law requires consent before those cookies are set. You can withdraw consent using the Google tools linked below, or by blocking cookies in your browser.
- Legal obligation — if we must keep or disclose information under applicable law.
If you are in India, we process personal data as needed to provide the site, for security, and (where required) with consent for advertising cookies, consistent with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
A cookie is a small file stored on your device. Similar tools include pixels, local storage, and advertising IDs. We use:
- Strictly necessary — to load the site, remember a short UI state if needed, and protect the APIs. The calculator itself does not require an advertising cookie.
- Analytics — set by Google Tag Manager / Google Analytics to count visits, pages, and basic device information so we can see how the calculator and essays are used.
- Advertising — set by Google and its partners when AdSense units are served. These may record that your browser visited this site and other sites, so ads can be more relevant, frequency-capped, or measured.
You can delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking all cookies may stop some ads or third-party features from working. Opt-out pages for interest-based ads are listed in the AdSense section.
6. Google Analytics and Tag Manager
This site uses Google Tag Manager (container GTM-PCQMSVPX) to load Google Analytics. Google may collect pages you view, approximate location from IP, device and browser type, and referral URLs. We use this to understand traffic, not to identify you by name. Google’s rules are in the Google Privacy Policy and how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can limit Analytics with Google Analytics opt-out.
7. Google AdSense and advertising
This site uses Google AdSense to display ads. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies and similar technologies to serve ads on Then & Now, including ads based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet. Google may collect device information, IP address, cookie identifiers, and data about the pages you view and ads you see or click.
Google’s own rules for how it uses this information are in Google’s documents, not in ours. Please read:
- Google Privacy Policy — how Google collects and uses data across its products, including ads.
- How Google uses information from sites or apps that use their services.
- Google advertising technologies and cookies.
- Google Business Privacy (advertising products).
- Google AdSense programme policies.
- Google EU User Consent Policy — for visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland.
Google may use the DoubleClick / Google advertising cookie and other identifiers. Historically this included the DART cookie; Google’s current advertising cookies are described in the advertising technologies page linked above. These cookies enable Google and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to this site and other sites.
Personalized vs non-personalized ads. Where required by law, personalized ads should only run after appropriate consent. Non-personalized ads may still use cookies for frequency capping, aggregated reporting, and to fight fraud and abuse. Google explains this in its privacy and ads documents.
Your ad controls. You can opt out of personalized Google ads, or change ad settings, here:
- Google Ads Settings (also at adssettings.google.com)
- Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out
- Network Advertising Initiative opt-out
- For Europe: Your Online Choices
Opting out of personalized ads does not mean you will see no ads. You will still see ads, which may be less relevant. Google, not Then & Now, operates those preference pages.
We do not sell your name or email to advertisers. AdSense is an advertising network: Google and participating advertisers may process device and browsing data as described in Google’s Privacy Policy.
8. Other third parties
Market data. The calculator fetches listed prices, splits, and dividends from public market-data sources (including Yahoo Finance endpoints) in order to price your what-if. Those providers have their own privacy terms. We send a ticker and date range, not your name.
Hosting and delivery. The website may be hosted or cached by infrastructure providers. They process IP addresses and request metadata as any web host does, under their own terms.
Email. If you write to Thekirudi@gmail.com, your message is handled by the email provider for that mailbox.
9. When we share information
We do not sell a list of users. We share information only:
- With Google and its advertising partners, as described for AdSense.
- With processors who host the site or deliver it, under a need-to-know basis.
- If the law requires it, or to protect the site, our users, or Nottinvested.
- If the project is transferred, with notice on this page if practical.
10. How long we keep it
Calculator queries are processed to return a result. Short in-memory caches of market answers expire. Server logs are kept only as long as needed for security and operations, then rotated. Email you send is kept as long as needed to handle the request and ordinary mailbox retention. Advertising cookies follow Google’s own retention, described in the Google Privacy Policy.
11. Security
We use HTTPS, reject cross-origin calculator calls, keep the pricing formula on the server, and rate-limit the APIs. No website is perfectly secure. Do not send passwords, brokerage statements, or government ID to us; we do not need them to run a what-if.
12. International transfers
Then & Now may be hosted, and Google’s advertising systems operate, on servers outside your country, including the United States. If you use the site from India, the EU, or elsewhere, your information may be processed in those other countries. Google describes its transfers in the Google Privacy Policy.
13. Children
The site is a general-audience financial education tool. It is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where that is the digital-consent age), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, write to Thekirudi@gmail.com and we will delete it from our mailbox where we can. Google’s child-directed advertising rules also apply to AdSense inventory.
14. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict personal data, to object to certain processing, to withdraw consent, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In India you may have rights as a Data Principal under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. In California you may have rights under the CCPA/CPRA; we do not sell personal information as “sell” is commonly understood for a named customer list, and we do not have accounts. Advertising cookies are controlled through the Google and industry links above.
Because we do not run user accounts, we often cannot look up “your file” from a ticker search alone. For mail we hold, write to Thekirudi@gmail.com from the address you used. We may need to verify the request.
15. Changes to this policy
We may update this page when the product, the law, or our advertising setup changes. The effective date at the top will change. Continued use of the site after an update means you should read the new text. Material advertising changes will stay described here, including the live links to Google’s policies.
16. Contact
Privacy and advertising questions: Thekirudi@gmail.com. Support: Thekirudi@gmail.com. Or use the contact us page. We aim to reply within seven days.
For how Google independently uses data, always prefer policies.google.com/privacy. We cannot change Google’s policy for you; we can only explain that this site uses AdSense and point you to Google’s pages.
